{ The Leaf Soap }

Hello dear summertime friends,

I’ve been on quite a long hiatus but have returned. I’m glad to be back to making soap! I’ve been making small batches with fun combinations of oils, aromas and dry inclusions like clay.

In other news: I injured my heel the weekend of July 4 and while I have yet to visit the doctor (I’m guessing it’s plantar fasciitis), it is slowly improving. It will still be at least another month before I resume my jogging. I’m looking forward to pounding pavement once I’m fully mended.

I hope to continue my current soap-making schedule until I’ve replenished my stock, which has dwindled quite low, so check in with my Etsy shop to see what new items I add!

Wishing you healthy heels,
Kelly

{ Turmeric Twist Soap }

Hello friends,

This week we bore witness to a lucky occurrence of a Blood Moon. I slept through it but have indulged in pouring over pictures of it online, and it was stunning. A strange thing happens to me during full moons: my sleep becomes horrible. Perhaps the extra luminescence makes deep sleep more elusive or maybe full moon madness stirs my thoughts, keeping them from settling enough to sleep. Whatever transpires causes in me a restlessness that wriggles from my toes all the way up through my awareness. It’s bothersome but a minor complaint. However, because of my recent sleep deprivation I will not be attending tonight’s Yoga + Wine Under the Stars, John Lennon Vintage.

Instead I will stay in and work on soaps, butters and balms for you lovelies.

Languidly yours,
Kelly

{ Succulent Mocha Soap }

Welcome to October my friends,

When my order for new fragrances (along with some re-stocking of old favorites) arrived I was especially excited about the espresso fragrance oil I purchased; the rich, warm, smooth aroma it bears is a perfect complement to the sweet, dense, familiar scent of dark rich chocolate, which is of my favorite fragrances so far.

What better way to warm yourself than by exalting in a truly delectable blend? The spirit of two beans, which pair so well they dance through cafes across the world, make me wish this soap was edible.

In addition to soap making I am busy formulating recipes for salves, balms and butters to help with winter skin problems. For this I infused mango butter with calendula, oils of avocado, sweet almond and grape seed with lavender and am currently infusing a large batch of grape seed oil with hops. I can’t wait to use these to make wonderfully smooth, emollient concoctions.

Waiting for the wind,
Kelly

Yesterday’s Work is Today’s Delight

Hello friends,

Are you enjoying the last Saturday of this year’s summer? I hope so.

Great news! The soap I wrote about yesterday has come out absolutely beautifully. The bar itself is testament to the wonderful bentonite clay immersed throughout and boasts and stunning, gentle green tone. The thin layer of soap I poured on top has also turned out beautifully: it undulates gracefully across the surface of the bar, offering a little bit of visual interest and the wonderful properties of white kaolin clay!

What’s more is that the blend of essential oils smells fantastic! At first it comes across as a complex herbaceous aroma but as you inhale deeply you begin to notice the subtle spice notes. Overall I find the blended scent invigorating and refreshing. I eagerly await the end of this soap’s curing time so I may try it out.

All My Herbs Are Going to Seed,

Immunity Boosting Blend

Rosemary from our garden.

Rosemary from our garden.

Hello loves,

Today I’m relishing in the remaining warm days while formulating a special immune-boosting, synergistic blend of essential oils for a small batch of cold process soap to help you through the cooler months so you can focus on cuddling with loved ones and partaking of pumpkin & spiced goodnesses instead of worrying about the transmission of germs.

This special blend of essential oils will include a scoche of thyme, some spicy clove, crisp lavender, eucalyptus and rosemary. I am also including some bentonite and white kaolin clay with some super-nourishing oils and butters to boot! This soap will be decadent! I can’t wait to share it with you! I may need some help coming up with an awesome name for it. What would you call a luscious, immunity-boosting, smooth-as-clay bar o’ soap?

In other news: I’ll be attending a Fall Equinox Workshop hosted by the ever-lovely Imagine Yoga yogis. Their workshops are always wonderfully grounding & inspiring. I’m particularly excited to attend this one because it will be a nice, smooth transition into fall after a somewhat scattered summer. Also, a large part of my excitement is in seeing how this workshop inspires my mala designs in the coming months.

Such exciting transitions as we move ever-nearer the next new year!

 With Windows Open Wide,
Kelly

Cotton

Gentle Cotton Soap

Gentle Cotton Soap

Today we removed some Gentle Cotton Soap from the mold only to find it was the consistency of chilled butter and needed another day to firm up before being sliced. The petites, however, were absolutely beautiful when removed from the mold! This emollient, pure soap touts such skin-loving oils as extra virgin organic coconut oil, avocado oil and grape seed oil.

We know it will delight us in all the right ways once it’s finished curing!

Whilst Taking Photographs

Hello, pretty.

Hello, pretty.

We’ve been busy working on new, dramatic pictures for our Facebook page and Etsy shop. We stopped for a minute to take some fun pictures of our Lavender & Honey Soap. As you can see, this is a generous bar.

In addition to full-sized bars we’ve been making some petite soaps that make great gifts or sink soaps!

Pretty little petite soaps.

We are eager to finish photographing our current stock and adding all of our listings to Etsy. Keep an eye on our shop as we’re making quick progress and will be adding new listings over the next couple of weeks.

Holiday Prep

As winter draws ever nearer we have begun making some delicious, richly scented soaps to keep spirits warm when it’s frosty outside. The first one we’ve done is a Dark Chocolate & Cocoa Butter Soap. This has a velvety smooth scent and the cocoa powder inclusion promises to be delightful! Since it’s full of antioxidants it boasts great benefits for skin and should be a great treat for those who suffer from dry skin during the cooler months.

While we were at it we made a batch of Hazelnut Toffee & Loofah Soap!  This is our first time using shredded loofah in a soap and we’re excited to see how well it exfoliates!

Ah, the wondrous loofah!

Saturday Morning Delight

What better way to start the weekend than by slicing some fresh Cocoa Butter & Coffee Soap?

The base recipe for this soap was found on the Teach Soap blog then modified for our purposes. With a fast set time we only had to wait overnight to cut into it. It’s certainly interesting to see the color differences between the un-gelled petite soaps and the gelled loaf soaps; we love both!
